GENERAL INFORMATION

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month, with refreshments at 5:30 and the actual meeting at 6:00 pm. At this time we have about 60 members, mostly from Marshalltown, but some come from surrounding communities. Our guild weathered the Covid pandemic, 

 

PROJECTS

One of our focus projects is Quilts of Valor, and we work with the Iowa Veterans' Home as well as the American Legion and VFW here in town to try to make sure that eligible veterans receive their deserved Quilts of Valor. As a guild we sponsor a category of quilts at the Iowa State Fair. Entered Quilts of Valor are subsequently presented to veterans at the Iowa Veterans Home.

 

Other community projects include collecting fabric scraps to be made into beds for cats and dogs at animal shelters, baby quilts which are donated to an organization that works with families, and neck pillows for donation to hospitals and nursing homes.

 

EVENTS

     Quilt Shows: At this time, our guild does not conduct a quilt show. Members do participate in several area quilt shows and enter quilts at the Iowa State Fair. Neither do we have specific interest/technique small groups. In the past members met during the month to work on foundation paper piecing, applique, English Paper Piecing, etc. Members with expertise and experience in techniques are always willing to share either at our monthly sew ins or at retreats...or at informal gatherings.

     Retreats: There are generally two retreats per year, giving quilters the opportunity to spend time working on their own projects or group projects. These retreats give members time to get to know each others in a smaller group than the monthly meetings do.

     Monthly sew-ins: Sew-ins will be held at the Marshalltown Arts & Civic Center on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday immediately following our guild meeting. Please attend and pay at our monthly guild meeting . The fee will be $10.00 per person, per day, non-refundable. Members can watch our group Facebook page for updates.
